Aim

This course is designed to give participants the skills and knowledge to legally dispatch the invasive, non-native grey squirrel in Northern Ireland, using firearms and other humane techniques.

It is an ideal course for the beginner, or those with limited experience in grey squirrel control.

Topics covered in the course include:

  • The history of the grey squirrel in Northern Ireland
  • Squirrel pox – impact on red squirrels
  • Grey squirrel damage – impact on forestry
  • Methods of control
  • Trapping methods
  • Humane dispatch
  • Firearms and the law

Those who complete the course will have the opportunity to take part in BASC’s squirrel trap loan scheme.

You do not need a firearm or firearm certificate to take part in the course.
