We are very excited to bring you a brand-new clay competition to the Northern Region.

Our Best In The Field Northern Clay Shoot will be held on Saturday 10th of August at The Coniston Shooting Ground, Coniston Cold, Skipton, North Yorkshire, BD23 4EA.

The 100-bird individual sporting competition will replicate shooting various live quarry species in a range of scenarios including:

  • Pheasants
  • Partridge
  • Grouse
  • Ducks
  • Pigeon
  • Rabbit
  • Squirrel and more.

Each stand will provide a realistic experience, with competitors either stood on a peg, tucked into a grouse butt or seated in a hide.

The event is suitable for all ages and abilities, and with thanks to our supporters Swatcom, Eley Hawk LTD, Coniston Shooting Ground, Foxholes Country Pursuits and Raygill, we have some fantastic prizes up for grabs for both the winners and runners up across the various entry categories. Our categories include Best In The Field North Overall winner, Women’s Top Gun, Senior Top Gun (over 65) and Young Shot’s Top Gun (under 21)

Prizes include:

Best In The Field Overall Winner – Best In The Field cup, a pair of Swatcom Active8 ear defenders plus 500 Eley cartridges.

Best In The Field runner-up – Browning gun slip, 250 Eley cartridges plus a BASC goodie bag.

Women’s Top Gun Winner – Women’s Top Gun cup, a pair of Swatcom Active8 ear defenders plus a BASC Women in Shooting goodie bag

Women’s runner-up – Women’s prize donated by Raygill plus a BASC Women in Shooting goodie bag

Senior Top Gun Winner – Senior Top Gun cup plus a pair of Swatcom Active8 ear defenders

Senior runner-up – Browning gun slip plus a BASC goodie bag

Young Shot’s Top Gun Winner – Young Shot’s Top Gun cup, A brand new Koffs O/U shotgun supplied by Coniston in a calibre of the winner’s choice, plus 250 cartridges

Young Shot’s runner-up – A pair of Swatcom Active8 ear defenders plus a BASC goodie bag

 

There will also be prizes for the highest scoring person using a side by side, as well as our Glorious 12th place competitor.

A separately ran sustainable ammunition pool shoot competition will also be available to enter on the day. Here you can try cartridges loaded with steel shot, have your shotgun checked by our team for compatibility with non-lead cartridges and learn more about the transition away from lead shot. The 20-bird pool shoot costs £20 to enter and includes cartridges (12 or 20 gauge only). Our winner will receive a Browning gun slip plus 250 Eley cartridges. Runner up will receive cartridges plus a BASC goodie bag. Entries for the pool shoot will end at 1 pm, with a shoot off taking place if required for 1st place. Gun’s will be available to lend for anyone wanting to participate if required.

Spectators are welcome to attend with no admission fee.  If you have a friend or family member who is new to shooting and would like to give it a try, then bring them along and they can receive a Have-A-Go experience with one of our BASC coaches. A cash donation of £10 is welcome for each Have-A-Go experience, which will be donated to The Gamekeeper’s Welfare Trust who will be providing health checks to anyone who would like one on the day.

We are delighted to welcome Lionel Strub from the Clarendon Hotel, multiple winners of Eat Game awards, who will be preparing tasters of game on our game themed BBQ for all to try.

The Coniston Hotel will also be providing a bar, selling refreshments throughout the day until 3pm

We will also be running a silent auction in aid of our Northern Young Shot’s programme in the run up to the event, with the winners announced on the day.

Check in for entries will start at 9.30 am and close at 12.00. All shooting to be finished by 1.30pm.

Cartridges will be available to purchase on the day. Please note there is a restriction on cartridges, with loads no larger than 28g and size 6 shot across the ground.

All those entering our Best In The Field North Clay Shoot will need to bring their own shotgun and ear/ eye protection and a current shotgun certificate.

All equipment will be provided for our Have-A-Go stand.
