All the major shooting organisations are calling for a 5 year phase out of lead shot for live quarry shooting in the UK. BASC are offering the opportunity to come and try one of the non lead alternatives (steel shot) at a various clay grounds in the coming months.

Participants will be able to try steel on a clay layout simulating live quarry shooting.

This is intended to be an informal experience to give people the opportunity to try the ammunition under qualified supervision and to dispel some of the myths regarding steel shot under the guidance of a BASC coach. Each session will last approximately one hour.

All those attending should be experienced shots and are required to bring their own 12 gauge shotgun, which will be checked by a member of staff to make sure they are capable of firing 70mm steel shot cartridge .

The ‘International Proof Commission (CIP) does not give guidance on choke recommendations for Standard Steel in Nitro proofed guns. For this event however we are recommending your guns to be choked at cylinder, quarter or half to optimise performance. If you are in any doubt about whether your gun is capable of safely firing steel we suggest that you consult a gunsmith before attending.

Due to Covid19 you will need to bring your own; face mask/ visor if you wish to wear one, nitryl gloves, safety glasses and ear defenders.

£10 booking fee.

If you are interested in attending, please contact BASC Scotland on scotland@basc.org.uk.
