Try Sustainable Ammunition Day

Due to the outbreak of COVID 19 and government guidance BASC took the decision to postpone all training courses scheduled up until the end of June 2020. With the restrictions starting to be lifted in different areas of the UK at different rates, we expect courses to start going ahead from the 9th July in England and at later dates in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. All courses will be reviewed on a daily basis and be led by government advice. I would like to thank all our future course participants for being understanding during this difficult period. If your course was postponed or is going to be postponed you will be contacted by a member of staff. The list of current courses are published on the BASC website and are open to booking subject to further government guidance.

Try standard steel ammunition on a clay layout simulating live quarry shooting.

All the major shooting organisations are calling for a 5 year phase out of lead shot for live quarry shooting in the UK. BASC are offering members the opportunity to come and try one of the non lead alternatives (steel shot) at a various clay grounds in the coming months.

Participants will be able to try steel on a clay layout simulating live quarry shooting.

This is intended to be an informal experience to give people to opportunity to try the ammunition under qualified supervision and to dispel some of the myths regarding steel shot under the guide of a BASC coach. Each session will last approximately one hour.

All those attending should be experienced shots and are required to bring their own 12 gauge shotgun, which will be checked by a member of staff to make sure they are capable of firing 70mm steel shot cartridge .

Please ensure that your gun is choked to half, quarter or cylinder before attending. If you are in any doubt about whether your gun is capable of safely firing steel we suggest that you consult a gunsmith before attending.

Participants will be in small groups at the ground accompanied by a BASC coach.

When you have finished your round of 25 clays you will have an opportunity to ask questions about sustainable ammunition and any other concern you have with regards to shooting sports with our resident expert Dr Peter Marshall.

Due to Covid19 you will need to bring your own refreshments; a face mask, nitryl gloves hat, safety glasses and ear defenders. Social distancing and limited numbers will be in effect to comply with current regulations.

Time slots: 10:00, 10:30, 11:00, 11:30, 12,00, 12:30, 13:00, 13:30, 14:00
